I consider myself a communicative person and I believe the verbal communication is one of my strongest interpersonal skills. I can easily express my ideas, opinion, thoughts and feelings. Another strong networking ability I have is the long relationship I have been developing with my teachers and colleagues from school-college and people from job and church. I am 27 years-old and until today I keep contact with my Math teacher, Marilena, from elementary school. Even after many years, she present me as pride example of her students. During her classes the students needed to make many exercises. I was normally the first one to finish and then I started to get close to my friends and help them to finish their exercises. She tells this story with a kind of excitement because this is not what usually happens.
- When students finish the exercises, they start to talk about different subjects and do not let their colleagues finish - she says - but not Jacqueline. She went to help her friends, explained them how to do the exercises, and as a consequence, she helped me.
These skills are naturally in me. Early I was invited by my colleague mothers to help their children with the studies. It continued even during my college.
My colleagues always reached me for help with the studies and I always was pleased to help them as much as I could. Sometimes, some of them asked me for private classes, which helped me to make some money and also helped me to make new friends. Joyce and Tuani, from elementary school, and Tatyanne, from college, deserve to be mentioned here because our friendship started with the private classes and we are still good friends.
The relationships I have built during my life opened to me some opportunities, for example: writing some chapters of different books in partnership with colleagues, getting a scholarship in a specialization course, English classes for free with a native English teacher, the position I have in the BALANCE Program Trial and many volunteer jobs.
I hope to employ not only my networking skills, but all my skills to strengthen the UK Science and Innovation Network in Brazil, to improve the Data Science in Brazil, and even to develop new and good data scientists.
UK is a leader on Science and Innovation worldwide and Brazil is becoming one of the world’s science powerhouses. Areas of UK expertise complement many of the objectives of Brazil and I believe the UK expertise on Data Science could help my country to develop this science and increase its quality.
With that in mind, after my studies in UK, I intend to return to Brazil prepared to work with Data Science and Health, if possible in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Health, as I do nowadays. I also plan to become a leader in Health Data Science in Brazil and apply my experience in the UK to train new and high qualified Data Scientists in my country. I do believe this kind of interchange will strengthen the UK Science and Innovation Network in Brazil and I am willing to apply all my skills to further UK-Brazil cooperation on Science and Innovation. A long term career goal is to apply the Data Science, more specifically Big Data and Machine Learning, to provide evidence on the efficacy of health interventions, complementing the evidences from clinical trials. Another long term career goal is to reproduce in Brazil the UK Big data initiative to impact on health.
